Canadian Joint Replacement Registry
More than 40,000 total hip and knee joint replacements are performed in Canada each year. The volume of these procedures has been rising because of an aging population and an increasing number of joint replacement procedures performed on younger, active Canadians. Furthermore, it is estimated that 10–12% of patients require subsequent replacements as a result of implant wear and breakage.
